Their prodigious selection of CNY goodies has garnered them well deserved renown and for good reason! Well known for their Chinese New Year “love letters”, this scrumptious and crunchy snack comes in various forms. Another excellent entry into our list, Little Nonya’s Cookies started out as a side project for Anthony Tan as he baked sweet and savoury Peranakan goodies during the Chinese New Year festive period and mostly sold to friends and family. However, over time, news of his tasty side hustle was far reaching and eventually, Little Nonya’s Cookies became a full-fledged business for Anthony. Founded by Tjendri Anastasia and named after the Indonesian folk song regarding Indonesia’s Solo river, Bengawan Solo is well known for its Indonesian-style kueh, cakes and pastries. Being one of Singapore’s most iconic and well known bakery chains, they are in no short supply of wonderfully flavourful goodies for Chinese New Year. Although their signature Kuehs and cakes will always do the trick, we recommend trying out their Sugee Cookies. Made with cashews or macadamia, these sweet and crumbly treats will surely match their other assortment of goodies and more! Another alternative is their Pandan Chiffon cake. Finally, no Chinese New Year celebration is ever complete without Bak Kwa! For that, we defer to the celebrated local Bak Kwa icon Bee Cheng Hiang. Their tender square smoked pork jerky conclusively sets the mood and tone of every Chinese New Year. Sweet and savoury spiced pork slices barbecued and smoked perfectly always brings out the festive spirit and is the hallmark of CNY celebrations. Bak Kwa is the perfect celebratory snack indeed!
